some quality wallaby time today
wallaby and me
we're of a stillness
in head high bracken
careless of the next door's saw
or rush of road upstairs
we can keep a distance
knowing each in the other's place
all ears, like rabbity antennae
for hundred meters all around
I'm only woolly on the head
it's traffic of names and days in there
but here's the now I light in
kookas start up
the mozzies descend
we're each of us fast in the grass
turn and crouch, go over the shoulder
head up if one takes a step
each will itch, will scratch
because we are to our own laws
a fence away from order
I watch the penny roll away
I'm head over heels with it
(not my picture!)
