Lizz Murphy - Poem 242: Shimmy

SHIMMY

I interrupt the possum
on a visit to the laundry
her child on her back
she retreats calmly
climbing up to the gap
amber beads dropping
by her wet tail begins the
silent shimmy into night
one palm pressed against
glass a sea anemone under
the surface of dark water
