Hera
sprung Zeus trying to get into her blouse
like a cuckoo in another's nest
but she would not be cuckolded
by a god who pretended to shiver with cold
she was more so much more than
the nagging wife known for her eyes
cow-eyed they said she could also gift
a horse with the power of speech
like so many Hera knew not only
prophecy but fate she could pull strings
turn night into day death into life
be it snakeskin or nesting doves
sprung Zeus trying to get into her blouse
like a cuckoo in another's nest
but she would not be cuckolded
by a god who pretended to shiver with cold
she was more so much more than
the nagging wife known for her eyes
cow-eyed they said she could also gift
a horse with the power of speech
like so many Hera knew not only
prophecy but fate she could pull strings
turn night into day death into life
be it snakeskin or nesting doves
So much imagery - flashing colours at me:) Love the first 3 lines and the cow-eyes!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Balanced.
ReplyDelete'Gift a horse with the power of speech' is a great - is it an image? - well, line anyway! Love this poem.
ReplyDeleteAn assured and sophisticated poem.
ReplyDeleteI had fun with this one including gifting the horse and not being cuckolded by a cuckoo. Thanks for your responses.
