Kerri Shying R # 243 - The Paddymelon

The Paddymelon

look
how good you are
you     both paws soft claws sheathed
side by side    my arm held down

the rest    that comes at night
comes hard
stitched along the seams with a gypsy-dancer’s
jingle    the blood-bounced stomp
writing on the brain
a boot  not bound   beside the bed
heel to sole with mate    no
kicking    upstairs    all that one idea

so you
my chickpea-thinker
noodle-logicked
kneader of the same brown bicep
each night
and the lovey-dovey eyes
oh
all that too

you by me
that’s everything
that’s free

  1. pademelon in the jacaranda

I took you for a possum
but you hopped away like a kangaroo

    on a different scale altogether

good thing I was out of it
    at the time
