Efi Hatzimanolis #56 Frangipani

The Frangipani scents Thai cemeteries
and Australian front gardens,
which scares off Asian buyers.
It has a reputation, the tree of death.
I’ve chalked the outlines
of the fallen flowers of frangipanis -
because the tree itself never seems to die,
their death seems criminal, the tree suspect.

  1. I didn't know the frangipani was associated with death. It has such a marvellous scent. I have several in the garden.

  2. ah yes, a lovely scent, Susan....I'm the only person I know who's ever had one die on her - a good omen?

  3. I didn't know about that association either. But the thought of the flower and its scent brings back so many memories
