Tell the spider
when you go back
down to the garage
that I am sorry
I saw the web in my
headlights
across the driveway
down by the creek
the night before
last
there was nothing to
do but push through
slowly hoping
he would cling to
the bonnet
already crafting the
story of the time
he caught that
enormous prey
rode on the wave of
its throes
all the way up to
the house
where he was sure he
had subdued it
then disheartened
found it
an inedible carcass
and set up home
somewhere new
I'm sorry he chose
the doorway
you were barrelling
through
don't be angry
he was having a
tough couple of days
you were probably
his second large
disappointment
