we drove places
as a form of entertainment
when we were young
TV was black and white
and found ourselves in
Cabramurra Plains
cold as hell
for Australia
trying to sleep
on the ground
under a movie poster
called The Murder Game
that was after we discounted
Fritz’s Hut
found on the map
as a haven for snakes
although a snake wouldn’t have been able to move
in that weather
an old crater
with low hills all around
locked gates that had to be opened
and at one point we came across
a satellite tracking station
glowing white
in a small valley
beyond the grid
Have never been there, but it sounds more spartan than Tallaganda! Love this poem but I was a bit confused by 'movie poster / murder is the game'.
ReplyDeleteI guess that can be a problem with factual reportage, may not work in a poem. Murder is the Game was the name of the movie written on the poster we tried to sleep under.
ReplyDeleteIt was certainly spartan as hell.
I changed the line to make it obvious it was a movie
