early morning at the Point

involves a nature walk

in some ways

as well as a city walk

one stretch set up

by the community gardeners

is dense bush

a small area

but enough to smell like bush

that smell you never get in the city

so different from flowering shrubs

and bush enough

that tourist campers

were parking there to sleep

until the public protest

about how they were using our water

for free, being a public nuisance

after which

Council changed the parking signs

it had changed the feeling of the place

having people with little tables and chairs

doing a spot of washing

having breakfast

sometimes sleeping in

where you could see bare feet

sticking out the back of a station wagon

sometimes they played guitar
