little Ode to Aten
and over the Koolonock Range it comes
through
treetops far and near
already at its winter angle
and I owe this one a salute
so find the limbs to offer for it
but mainly just admire
shade hazing
as an aura spread
the glistener
of pond tops, leaves
and solitary swagger trees
cast golden in their paddock round
the blinding casts my shadow
and
every shadow else must show
how singularly small we are
who crawl this well lit Earth
(jumper bought in Athens in 1983)
