Melinda Smith #24 Patinas

(not the cottage in the poem - but quite close)

Patinas
(or Three views of a railway worker's cottage)

i.

Cream wood-and-wire fence
cocoa-dusted with old age;
gloss of cumquat leaves.

ii.

Worn white iron lace
cobwebs the verandah posts
catching rust speckles.

iii.

Trains rattle beyond
bluestone gutters flecked with gold
fallen from plane trees.
