first light
before a sun says
notice little things that have bitten
still dim
but insects are all up
early in hours
a day is all that's yet not yet
still it gets into everything
you'd have to draw the blinds
while the dew's
still with the ground
corners peep in
traffic has begun
the branch-to-branch
delight in transports
webs will need
a stick to pass
footsteps stir wings, frogs leap
many times their height
(that's how small they are)
and greener!
squaring all the round of day
thrum under hearing's threshold
the ants long since
like tiny tractors
taunting sun with
'go on, bastard, rise!'
