Jeltje Fanoy #19 to look like a dancer (1950s)

to look like a dancer (1950s)

far-away,
and ethereal,

th look of a real dancer

our in-between-rehearsal-
far-away-trance-

interminable-display,

is my back straight, is it straight,
gazelle-like loveliness

on a break, to feel

like a dancer,
unruffled and composed

in spite of all those wars

in the windows on th train,
no loose strands, and serene,

and those scarves, woollen socks

to keep us warm, we wanted
so much to be liked,

and look like a performance

  2. So very good and so moving...dancers understand trains better than the train understands the dancer...for a moment I was right there in your poem...you know somewhere today a small boy remembers seeing you.
