What is astonishing is that they gave people what they wanted. Genius. Rather than corral mobs to fit purpose, they observed and fit purpose to mob. I think this is the closest I’ve ever come to brand loyalty. Here, in the airport lounge, where both adjective and noun form of that word finally blend in joyful synergy.
The bench is cushioned and wide enough to dandle the baby between my legs without fear of small tumble. I have a backrest. I can stretch out. Lie back. Put my feet up. The whole section is clearly mine; clearly the way I’m using it.
And for people uncomfortable with change, or who prefer personal space and social behaviour to be defined by barriers rather than fluid and indistinct convention, over there is a bench pre-sectioned with armrests.
Lesley, you write so well!
