Susan Hawthorne #246 excitement lost

she said when you are a new writer
is the best time to attend a writers festival
everything still shines writers say words
that generate ideas

sometimes you go home and start writing
you wonder if you'll ever be one of those
up there speaking you don't believe it
but if you stick at it you will

thirty years on you are allowed to say
this session is boring this writer
has not much to say this book needed
a better edit

remember the days when you sat at the bar
talking excitedly about the great writer
you'd just heard with the other new writer
dreaming your future

  1. Ah Sue, lovely poem. (Me, I still talk about other writers, and occasionally they talk about me.)

  3. I do still talk excitedly about writers, but less frequently. I probably listen better!
