Lizz Murphy - Poem 190: Lilt viii. Hanging Gardens of Babylon

Bursts of colour in Belfast and other cities and townships. This scene is Lisburn, 8 miles SW of Belfast.

HANGING GARDENS OF BABYLON

The city is a
cascade of colour
lamp posts
bollards
fence rails
petunia
festooned

It’s my first Irish summer
in forty-odd years
It’s festive  I’m brightened

They won’t do it for the Catholic areas so they won’t
