On the upside of the hill
by the stream edge of the road
past the last left turn on to the straight
behind the pencil sharpener letterbox
between red running gums and beyond
the camphor laurel
up the wooden stepping stair
through the door of all informing glass
further to the final vertex
at the working table
slouched on the steel chair which swivels
in the little spit of sun
chafed by the corded pull of making
stooping muscles snibbed and all contracted
under the influence of words
