#221 Kevin Brophy 'What the land knows'

#221 What the land knows
When the mortal world is not enough
where can mortals go?
When the signs are stars and clouds
which way do we say they point?
When the travellers return
with a sliver of the moon in their eyes
and stories of spinifex that bristled
through their shoes
we cannot know
what signs are there to follow
what message is the new one
so new
it could take a thousand years to hear.
The land knows what lies within it.
The land covers what lies within it.
The message, perhaps, is on the soles of our feet.
