Red Cone (LF)#221- Baby snake

baby snake

placed in a large preserving glass jar
warmth entices them to show
in spring
it has been a few days of warmth
where there is one
my mother used to say
there are more
many
but it seems so small and innocent
then it bares its fangs
venom
I have know a few snakes

fear
fear my playful puppy
will play with one
throwing it up
in the air like the toy mouse
he sometimes sleeps with
would he snuggle up to a snake
some of us have unknowingly
one bite from even a baby
snake would kill him
this baby brown is a killer

my mother used to doze
in the sunroom
next to the wall cavity
where snakes slept
in the afternoon sun

unknowingly
ignorance can be comforting
