#161 ‘Lucky day’
I watch a man
dig up a bush potato
larger than his
head.
Women bend to
wild tomatoes
as if each one
is an angelus.
The girls paint
their lips
with nail polish.
I climb onto the
roof to cut away
scratching
eucalyptus leaves.
Ngaarnkup tells
me he has bags and bags
of clothing for
the people.
Naeem has a
documentary on a usb
about a school
in Nepal.
I watch the
boys’ hair fly as they ride
a motor bike
along our sandy road.
Today’s a lucky
day,
we hung the
clothes out,
red and pink,
with orange sheets,
and the cow did
not eat any of it.
