Barbara Temperton #24 - The soundman

for Mark

Everything’s ready for the parade:
speaker stacks crown the street,
cables - neatly gaffer taped -
streaming all ways.

In the town square: stands are ready
for microphones, music sheets;
foldbacks and stools await musicians
tuning instruments offstage.

The soundman sits in a beanchair
on the Library verandah. He is still -
serene as a bodhisattva -
watching an approaching storm front
upstage the sky.
