When the metal ended pendant
tail of my zip
tail of my zip
swings with my lean and
strikes a peal
from the stainless steel bowl
of citrus on the bench
well that's the sound of lemons belling
in their yellow curves
the sound of lemons
chiming it's a little sharp and brassy
the rind is ringing
but lower than you might imagine
from the pithy dampening
it’s the acid knelling of the zest
might set your teeth on edge
Like this poem but at first I was confused by the opening line 'When the metal ended', until I realised that 'metal ended' was an adjective and not a noun and a verb — I would have put 'metal-ended'!
ReplyDeleteAhh yes. Originally the first two lines were one but it just looked a little too long. Would work better with a different line break I think... Will give it a try. xm
DeleteI really like this. So slant and strange.
