Mikaela Castledine #165 Wrath

We are invited to an evensong
to thank the community
and bless the revamped entrance
of a church
we are tourists here
but not completely unfamiliar
with such a service
the when to stand
and the when to sit
and the when to sing
(if not the actual
strange arrangements of the notes
which always up when we down
and vice
and versa)

Nevertheless
the two who steal our carefully chosen seats
while the congregation have all processed to
watch the bishop
knock knock knocking
ceremonially on the door
(despite my bag
of bright blue unignorable leather
holding our places)
fill me with an unholy rage
for the rest of the evening
