Susan Hawthorne #233 navigating

I inhabit an imaginary island tell stories
that reflect the path I must take
between me and my destination
tales so grand you would not know

that even an imaginary map can
guide you fantastic fishy monsters play
in my mindscape each creature
a waystation like stations of the cross

people have always navigated by stars
used the wind even going against it
but only a few know how to use
subsurface luminescence light from land

islanders used it across the oceans
along with song and oar stroke
fish and birds guided them memory
served them through patterns of wave swell

you could inhabit an imaginary island
tell stories that reflect the path you
must take between you and your destination
tales so grand you would not know

that even an imaginary map can
guide you monstrous creatures play
in your mindscape each animation
a waystation each path a new destination
