Anna Couani #149

I remember the huge bonfires
we used to have
on cracker night
on the empty lot
before the days of OH&S
made with furniture
when furniture was wood
and old tyres
flames leaping so high
in the air
the fire so hot
in the inky blackness
of the mountain night

behind that the frosty days
mist blowing along the empty streets
and even in town
that desolation

  1. Oh, so do I! Particularly with this vivid recreation. (In my case, in Launceston, Tasmania – hilly, but the mountains a little distant.)
