Susan Hawthorne #171 television screams

television screams money
whether it is Trollope's tale
of tyranny or politicians'
pleas for power    but in our
daily rounds our poverty
is in time    listen to the
bird's call    watch as they
suck honey from flowers
or perch on the high trees
pecking at passionfruit vines

television screams power
money power and sporting
power    watch the stride
of a cassowary as she
powers through the bush
chasing fruit on the ground
or the pace of a dog running
for joy through a garden
sit on the deck listen to wind
peer at clouds through trees

  1. the beauty of the two types of action here is so striking, the pounding beasts against the failed air blasts. Thanks.

  3. Well, I am enjoying the Trollope tale – but yes, even then....

I too see your proximity to nature as true riches, and admire the natural power the denizens of your world exhibit.
