on her birthday
parrot in sunshine


her family
making birthday cards
mid morning


nalysnyky
for brunch—
rainbow socks


outdoor table
our chickens gather around
the birthday girl


her lifelong friend—
she drives from the city
with cake


cold night—
the dog on his hind legs
eating cake

    There is such agreat feeling of happiness here, the birds and animals help create this atmosphere.

    What Susan said. Also a beautiful evocation of family. I like the progression. (At first I thought it was a child's birthday; but the 5th reveals, quite the opposite – which is all the nicer.)
