#216 Kevin Brophy 'Questions to a fortune teller'

#216 Questions to a fortune teller

Will the cockatoos go away
if we bolt a hawk-shaped cut-out to the roof?

Will the children be pleased with themselves
at the end of this day?

Will we be well again
if we chase away the singing geckoes?

Will someone visit us who does not leave
something behind?

Will we be able to say exactly which sunset
was the most beautiful one we saw?

Will this day end without pain
enough to remember it by?

Will the dogs always have serious
business to attend to across town?

Will this stop that
if we put that on this table?

Will a man come and climb on the roof
to attach a dish that speaks with a satellite?

Will the orange moon
become my friend?

Will we read about the end
before it happens?

Will the crumbling hills crumble to the plains
in our lifetime?

Will we ever be forgiven
for dying out like this?

Will the last ones leave directions

to the tools of survival?
