To be a cote
dove or other
you need more than the usual
number of holes
arched dark and inviting
a volume of spiralling shadow
a siloing stand against the force
of your openings attraction
a steadying brace
against the back thrust of wings
and to muffle the swaddling deafhum
when all come home to roost
such place for safety resonance and seed
capacity for nest breast shit and shovelling
I love this. I also loved it when I first read it, Mikaela. I don't have time now to go back it and tell you exactly why and how, but if I remember, I think this is much better with more the flow of wings with the birds.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob, some days there just isn't the time to spend what is needed on a poem. Even running into the second day I still don't think it has quite come to fruition. Hopefully I will get back to it eventually.
