Claine Keily # 14 I buried my head

She came to me
dark and young
fleeing country
young enough for her breasts
to still be firm
and I told her I would marry
even though she swears to God
and I have no belief there

I buried my head
each night in her hair
knowing she could not hurt me

I walked by each day
past the hairdressers
saw the false eyelashes
she was applying
grateful
that she could not question
anything about me

  2. Yes, it comes across as very sad. Yet your writing style generally has a quality of clarity that reminds me of how lambent a sad poem can be - that's a hard thing to do well, let alone as well as you do.

  3. Thanks Efi I have had a lot of practise at sadness as well as writing! I am trying to write the odd poem now that is not sad. I find that hard!
