day
of the outage at Markwell
or
a
pause for the body electric
boil kettles till the hour appointed
fill the sink, the bath
run round like a mad thing
until the current's cut
now remember the scythe and the shovel
everything hands and feet can power
every kind of paint
no internet
no music
but I make myself
I could pretend to play the piano
quite a few options there
read a book – there's a few about
face off with the wallabies
cast a cool eye over the ducks
notice the whole of the landscape still stands
fences, power poles and all
all the emotions still seem to be there
the road runs by yet, petrol driven
bodily functions continue
when they tug out the rug
the world is wider
not electric but eclectic
this is a different day
what heavily bodies we can afford
make their rounds regardless
let these be reasons to go solar
to make our sweet peace with the sun
to celebrate the outage
howsabout a board game?
or visit friends off-grid?
we could go to town
but there'll be crowds of us
now I must say farewell my friends
this piece will be posted after we're back
yoga and the garden singing
that might make my day
