calendar
blank
nothing on today
no 'scheduled events'
no one is coming so far as we know
a clear calm day
comes slow to light
starts best with the stretches
and what's for breakfast?
(I think I know)
and what's for lunch and dinner?
then that busy old fool arrives
(we have some history)
and here's a whole sky looking in
with kookaburras, yellow breasts
white arsed swampy blues
some test how small a bird can be
and there are insects too
brave wintering diaphanous
and dance cards always full
and then the RAAF
(insects writ large)
I meet them all on my rounds
and note some secret missions too
dead mouse is somewhere, overstaying
whiffy laundry is a visitation
compost would like to go outside
that blank page in the diary
is full of plots and calculation
stray lines that seek the flock
and here's the wind come, right on cue
and then a first few drops drop in
we run around like mad things
ahead of the storm predicted –
our evening guest
give me such
blank calendar days
and I'll count myself blessed
nice and lovely water reflection pic!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this Kit, feels like a familiar kind of day :-)
ReplyDeleteIt has the same feel as my submission for the Newcastle Poetry Prize. :-)
