More than ten thousand meters
of cord to fashion into art
with a contricted time in which
to make it
I am not the miller’s daughter
my firstborn is not the sacrifice
but still the task is folkloric
and I dream
of weeping until
a nameless dwarf will come
and save me from the labour
of writing my daily poem

"The devil told you that!" Sorry, I could't resist a quote from the story. What a wonderful extended metaphor. I really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteThis reaches deep - never ending toil and making. Very effective.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile we get to peek into each other's lives – yours so full of making.
ReplyDelete(If he comes back later and demands your firstborn, hand him a copy of your first poem.)
Yes, making for about 12 hours a day at the moment! Strangely I feel I could so easily spin straw into gold, It's writing a daily poem that has become the impossible task.
