Sarah St Vincent Welch #172 3pm (after PS Cottier's 9am)

waiting at the bus stop
watching for the number
all that’s after is better
lollies at the corner shop
dog lick face, tripping up
chips wrapped in paper
knees scabbed over
running down hill
it's raining its pouring
speeding round a corner
reruns on the telly
learning vocabulary
reading girl’s magazines
orchestra practice, tuning
our instruments, warming up

  1. Lovely and so evocative. Great rhythm too.

  2. Fantastic poem; the way time is chopped into segments with each line, except for the last two, which give a rather more optimistic feeling to the whole piece.
