Robert Verdon, #173, Truth will Prevail

truth will prevail

winter interlude
garden glories and pot-herbs
exotic spices here for ever
mix roast aubergine
with steamed tomatoes
in the kitchen of creation;
potatoes unpeeled, spotted as dominoes
sizzle in oil;
knead dough,
flour like a galaxy
in the glow of the skylight;
skewer bananas, glaze with fragrant
syrup, amber as prehistory

do it all on a shoestring
while scented with frangipani
cooking up worlds is always
better than cooking up lies

  1. Sounds absolutely lovely – if someone else will cook it for me! I'd sooner play with the words; they're the only thing I have the patience for. But you can invite me to dinner at your place any time. :-)

  2. Thanks Efi, Rosemary, cooking up words is less messy than the real thing! Have written another draft of this as you can see, hope it retains the flavour of the first.
